Duration: 30-60 min
Optional workshop
Optional stage talk
Discover how to recruit the best talent with gaps in their resume. It could take your organization to new heights.

About the talk

Arman Vestad was a career criminal and substance abuser before meeting three good helpers who helped him turn his life around. The third helper was a leader at NAV who took a chance and gave him a job as a debt counselor, despite all the gaps in his resume.

In this talk, Arman shows how businesses can become stronger, more profitable and more competitive in the increasingly fierce battle for talent. It requires companies to rethink how they design positions, job postings and interview processes.

The result can be a better work environment, greater sustainability, increased loyalty and a company that stands on firmer ground for the future.

With concrete examples, Arman shows how inclusive leaders create much-needed helping hands and minds. Many without formal qualifications have life experiences and qualities that can strengthen the organization -- if it has made openness and creativity part of its system.

After the talk, Arman can follow up with "Brave Leaders Take Action"  -- workshops where leadership teams get tools for inclusion, recruitment and follow-up.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUR BUSINESS

  • Innovation: People with unconventional backgrounds have often had to solve problems in their own lives with great creativity.
  • With trust comes loyalty: Experience shows that many who receive an unexpected chance turn out to be the most dedicated and loyal employees.
  • A broader work environment: If you only hire by the book, you may end up with a workplace where everyone has the same background and thinks alike.
New colleagues with different backgrounds can challenge established truths that hinder growth.

PREREQUISITES FOR SUCCESS

  • Job descriptions: What roles need to be filled? Can the distribution of tasks be changed?
  • The job posting: How do you design it so that people with gaps in their resume want to apply and feel that it speaks to them?
  • The interview: How do you structure and conduct it so that the candidate's strengths come to light?
  • Quality assurance: When the candidate lacks references or has limited experience, what other methods can you use to test the necessary skills?

Some of those who choose ArmanV

Kjellbjørn Johansen

Police Specialist, Molde Police

Arman has an incredible story. Of those who have been through something similar, very few dare and are able to share it. That is what makes it so important that Arman steps forward and tells it the way he does

Christian Poppe

Researcher, National Institute for Consumer Research and Oslo MET

Arman's dramatic story reveals something that concerns us all: how social belonging and the desire to be accepted are connected to spending habits and -- for some -- serious financial problems. A vivid illustration of an important research finding!

Signe Skjørholm

Utdanningsforbundet
An excellent and thought-provoking talk. The members of Utdanningsforbundet expressed afterwards that they had heard quite a life story.
